We hope everyone has a nice three-day weekend! As a reminder, Hill School is closed this Monday, September 7th for a student and staff holiday. We have also been made aware that some folks may be confused with holidays and conference days this year, as several changed from the first calendar draft for AISD. A Message from PTA on the Hill Heritage Parade and International Reading Week: We invite all of our Hill families to share their cultural heritage with the community! Please let us know if you’re interested in participating in the exciting events we have planned for the week of September 14-18. Heritage Parade — Friday, Sept 18 after morning assembly. Students are encouraged to dress in cultural attire and/or wave flags. Participation is optional but encouraged! International Book Reading — Parents are invited to read a short book to their child’s class about their culture, a tradition, or in another language. Our Dillos love this tradition! Let us know if you’re interested in a book reading to your child’s class or if your Dillo would like to walk in the parade by filling out THIS FORM. Keep an eye out for a sign-up link from your child’s homeroom parent as well. Questions? Contact culturalcommittee@hillpta.org.
We have had a few questions about our new (or new again) WOW time our students will be doing on most days, typically close to recess time depending on the grade level. WOW stands for Working Out for Wellness. As we have transitioned away from our Marathon Kids schedule we had every three days due to staffing, WOW time is now how we support meeting our PE mandated minutes. This time will still be used for Marathon Kids or other organized physical activities. It does not take place during or take the place of our daily recess.

We want to invite our community to our next Hill Principal Coffee on Thursday, September 17th at 7:45 am in our Hill library. Our ACPTA representative for Hill will be sharing and presenting on advocacy and ways to get involved, as well as answer questions you may have around the many things affecting Hill and AISD right now. Principal Drummond will give a general update. We will send a reminder next week.
Dillo Dads Clean-Up Day is this Saturday, September 12th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Thank you to all community members, not just dads, who are willing to come out and lend a hand to beautify our school.
Support PTA this Tuesday for Wally’s Spirit Night: Skip cooking after the long weekend and head to Wally’s on Mesa Drive for dinner! A portion of all the sales from 3:30-8:00pm will go directly to Hill Elementary. Never been to a Hill Spirit Night? We host these throughout the year and they’re a fantastic way to raise money for Hill (and feed your family at the same time!). Just remember to mention Hill Elementary at checkout for all Spirit Nights so the business knows to donate the funds!
Do you think your child is a candidate for Gifted and Talented (GT) services? The AISD GT referral window is open and will remain open through October 16th. Recommended Next Steps:
- Touch Base with Teachers: We strongly encourage you to connect with your child's current homeroom teacher to let them know you're considering a referral. They will begin observing your child's learning strengths and can share feedback during your parent-teacher conference in October. You are also welcome to reach out to last year’s teacher for insights!
- Explore Resources & Submit: Use the links below to learn more about common GT traits, understand the 2nd Grade Universal Screener, and submit a referral form.

Mensaje de la PTA sobre el Desfile de la Herencia de Hill y la Semana Internacional de la Lectura: ¡ Invitamos a todas las familias de Hill a compartir su herencia cultural con la comunidad! Hemos recibido algunas preguntas sobre nuestro nuevo (o nuevamente nuevo) tiempo WOW que nuestros estudiantes realizarán casi todos los días, generalmente cerca del recreo, dependiendo del nivel de grado. WOW significa "Entrenamiento para el Bienestar". Debido a la falta de personal, hemos dejado de lado nuestro programa Marathon Kids que teníamos cada tres días, y ahora el tiempo WOW es la forma en que apoyamos el cumplimiento de los minutos obligatorios de educación física. Este tiempo se seguirá utilizando para Marathon Kids u otras actividades físicas organizadas. No se realiza durante el recreo diario ni lo reemplaza.

La jornada de limpieza de Dillo Dads se llevará a cabo este sábado 12 de septiembre de 11:00 a 13:00 . Gracias a todos los miembros de la comunidad, no solo a los padres, que estén dispuestos a participar y ayudar a embellecer nuestra escuela.
¿Cree que su hijo/a es candidato/a para los servicios de Superdotados y Talentosos (GT)? El plazo para solicitar referencias GT del AISD está abierto y permanecerá abierto hasta el 16 de octubre. Pasos recomendados:
- Comuníquese con los maestros: Le recomendamos encarecidamente que se comunique con el/la maestro/a actual de su hijo/a para informarle que está considerando una referencia. El/la maestro/a comenzará a observar las fortalezas de aprendizaje de su hijo/a y podrá compartir comentarios durante la reunión de padres y maestros en octubre. ¡También puede comunicarse con el/la maestro/a del año pasado para obtener información!
- Explore los recursos y envíe la solicitud: Utilice los enlaces a continuación para obtener más información sobre las características comunes de los GT, comprender la Prueba de Evaluación Universal de 2.º grado y enviar un formulario de referencia.
