An Update from Principal Drummond 11/1/26

Dear Hill Community,

We hope everyone had a fun Halloween night as we move into November! Just a reminder there is no school tomorrow on Monday, November 2nd and Tuesday, November 3rd. Monday is a staff/student holiday. Tuesday is a student holiday and staff development day during Election Day. Go vote!

PTA Needs Your Extra Candy! Have extra Halloween candy? We're collecting individually wrapped candy and small prizes for Carnival game prizes! Drop off donations at the Hill front office starting Wednesday, November 4th, after the long weekend.

Hill Carnival is November 15th: This is one of our biggest community traditions of the year — and one of the PTA’s most important fundraisers. This year, join us for a fun-filled Sunday afternoon on November 15th from 1:30–4:00 pm. There will be something for everyone, with returning favorites like pedestal joust, bungee run, homerun derby, obstacle course, rock wall, soda toss, pony rides, a photobooth with Dash, a live DJ with dance contests, crazy hair painting, carnival games, prizes and more! And yes — the famous Hill Haunted House is back! Our 5th graders have been hard at work creating this year’s Haunted House, and they’re ready to make it the best one yet. Another fan favorite returning this year: the dunk tank, featuring Principal Drummond and other Hill teachers! Food, Treats & More: Stop by the Hill Carnival Food Truck Park for local favorites including Kona Ice, Donut NV, Stoney’s Pizza, Kettle Korn, Travelin’ Tom’s and more. Wristbands & Tickets: Wristband sales are officially open! Purchase your child’s Carnival wristband in advance and save $5 when you buy by November 7th.

You can also use the same link to purchase game tickets for the Pringles Toss, Soda Toss and Dunk Tank, pre-order cascarones, and make a donation to support the Pringles Toss and Soda Toss. PURCHASE WRISTBANDS, GAME TICKETS, CASCARONES & DONATE HERE Have questions? Email Buffy Crownover and Lindsay Bishop at carnival@hillpta.org.

We are seeing a lot of illnesses right now as we typically do this time of year. Please keep encouraging your students to wash hands regularly. If your student is showing flu-like symptoms, please keep them home. As a reminder, students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school. They should also have improved symptoms. Students with stomach illnesses should also wait 24 hours prior to return. We appreciate our entire community working together to keep everyone healthy!

Survey Reminder: Austin ISD is partnering with researchers from the Coalition for the Advanced Understanding of School Environments (CAUSE) to better understand how school buildings and learning spaces support student learning and well-being at select campuses. More information was sent out last Sunday in a larger email if interested in participating. Have a nice day with your families!
