Dear Hill Community,

It was an excellent first week of learning at Hill School! We were so proud of the example our older Dillos set for our younger ones. We also appreciate our community’s patience during arrival and dismissal times as everyone figures out their new routines. And Dillo Cheer for our new group of Safety Patrol 5th graders as they took on their new roles!

We wanted to let everyone know that our first lockdown drill of the year will take place this Thursday, August 27th. This is mandated to be done in August. We will practice what to do in our classrooms if there was an immediate threat on campus. We reviewed protocol as a faculty this past week to ensure we follow correct procedures while supporting our students. If you would like to prepare your student(s), we use the phrase “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” to keep it simple. We let students know that they are safe first and foremost. We ensure they know it is important to practice well and take it seriously. If you have a student who has been at Hill in past years, we have utilized these drills each year and practiced them successfully. We look forward to learning from them so we can continue to improve our campus safety. You can click here to see a list of drills we practice throughout the year.

The Last Day to Order Hill PTA Fall Spirit Gear is Today! New year, new gear! With that we proudly present the official Fall 2026 Hill Elementary merchandise. As you make your purchase, remember, a gift for your family is also a gift to our school. Your purchases go directly back to Hill making it possible for the PTA to support staff, students, and educators. Thank you!

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are accepting nominations until September 30th! Click here to nominate an outstanding Hill staff member. Nomination categories include:

This program honors outstanding Texas educators with significant cash grants for both individuals and their schools. Two of our very own Austin ISD educators took home top honors last year. Megan Vasquez from Becker Elementary, who won the Leadership Award, received $10,000 for herself and a $10,000 grant for her school. Alasin DeVeny from Joslin Elementary, who earned the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, received $25,000 for herself and a $25,000 grant for her campus. Thank you for recognizing our amazing staff!

Fue una excelente primera semana de aprendizaje en Hill School! Estábamos muy orgullosos del ejemplo que nuestros Dillos mayores dieron a los más pequeños. Queríamos informarles que nuestro primer simulacro de confinamiento del año se llevará a cabo este jueves 27 de agosto. Esto es obligatorio en agosto. Practicaremos qué hacer en nuestras aulas si hubiera una amenaza inmediata en el campus. Revisamos el protocolo como personal docente la semana pasada para asegurarnos de seguir los procedimientos correctos mientras apoyamos a nuestros estudiantes. Si desea preparar a su(s) estudiante(s), usamos la frase "Cerraduras, luces, fuera de la vista" para que sea simple. Les hacemos saber a los estudiantes que están seguros ante todo. Nos aseguramos de que sepan que es importante practicar bien y tomarlo en serio. Si tiene un estudiante que ha estado en Hill en años anteriores, le informamos que hemos utilizado estos simulacros cada año y los hemos practicado con éxito.
