Dear Hill Community,

We are excited to kick off an amazing school year this Tuesday! As a reminder, there is no school this Monday, August 17th as our staff prepare to welcome our Dillos. Thank you to everyone who came out this past Friday for our Meet the Teacher event where we loved welcoming our community back. We hope this letter prepares you with everything you need for next week.

Here are some basics for the first day of school Tuesday. Our doors will open Tuesday at 7:15 am and students will be walked straight to their classes from the front doors or entry to our other buildings. The back doors to the main buildings are still not entries for families. Parents/Guardians will not be able to enter the school past the yellow brick wall (hug zone if needed). Parents can certainly walk their older students to the portables, 5th grade commons door, and 4th grade building door in the back of the school. Staff will be stationed around the campus to support you, including up front to walk students who need help to class. Labeling your student’s backpack if they are unfamiliar with their teacher’s name and our school is also appreciated for additional support. Kindergarten students should utilize the colored tags teachers passed out at our Meet the Teacher event with teacher names on them. For our Kindergarten families, we invite you to our Tears and Cheers Parent Coffee in the library, where Principal Drummond will give a quick welcome presentation with some Hill basics. Please ask and check into the front office to get a badge and show your ID to attend. 

Beginning Wednesday, our morning assemblies will begin at 7:35 am in the cafeteria/small gym area. We will continue to assist all students who need support into assembly. Our doors will start to open at 7:00 am for the rest of the school year on Wednesday. Again, we encourage all families to have their students attend assembly by 7:35. The official attendance bell will ring at 7:40. Please see the Arrival/Dismissal letter from this past Wednesday for more information (also added again below). Will your student be buying breakfast or lunch at school this year?  Visit the AISD SchoolCafe page and log in to your account to make payments, schedule automatic payments, set purchase restrictions, request low balance alerts, submit meal applications, view purchases, and check out the menus.  If you need to apply for Free or Reduced-Price meals you may complete this step on SchoolCafe as well.

We want to let our community know that one of our long-time custodians, Dennis Saunders, will be moving over to support Padron Elementary this year due to budget cuts within the Austin ISD service center. Hill will have three custodians this year. This will be his last week at Hill. If you see him, thanks for showing your appreciation. 

Families with Bus Riders: If you have a student riding the bus this year, we wanted to ensure you had the corresponding animals that go with the bus numbers that have changed this year based on our current information:

• 2638- Bee Bus
• 2637- Butterfly Bus
• 2631- Fish Bus
• 2636- Lion Bus

This has been a hot summer! Please know that we will monitor the heat closely and follow appropriate guidelines for exposure. But hydration begins in the morning at home! Please ensure your student drinks plenty of water in the mornings. Please also ensure beginning day one, they bring a labeled water bottle that is refillable each day. Our teachers will ensure they have access throughout the day.

Please ensure your student gets good sleep and eats a healthy breakfast to be ready for a great day of learning on Tuesday! We are excited for another great year.

Below is our annual Arrival and Dismissal letter information we send out to ensure our systems continue to create a safe before and after school for all families. If using the car line this year, we want to offer this Car Mirror Tag we encourage you to hang to pick up students. Thank you for using this or your own name plate to make dismissal more efficient for all of us! Please read below for everything else you need. Be on the lookout soon for a new arrival/dismissal reminders video from Principal Drummond (in production) with more tips and must-dos to keep these times safe and efficient!

As the start of school is just around the corner, we want to ensure you have the information you need for a smooth first arrival and dismissal at Hill School this fall. A separate letter is going out with more general information for the upcoming week. Please ensure you let your teachers know how your student will be getting home for the first week of school and beyond once you know who they are! The more consistent this can be, the better for student safety.

Update for First Day of School Arrival: For our returning families, please know that we will be doing arrival on the first day of school slightly differently than past years when parents could walk their students to class. Parents will not be allowed to walk their students to the classroom on the first day. Instead, we will have staff ready to assist students, especially our younger students, and get them to the correct teacher. We will provide a hug/drop off zone if needed at the front door area where our staff will support. For students who need to be walked to class, we ask that you take them to the front doors on the first day of school as our back door by the cafeteria is no longer an entrance. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to prioritize safety and tighten up some of our past practices. On the 2nd day of school (8/19), we will begin our normal assemblies in the cafeteria space to begin the day.

Reminder to families who plan to park and walk their students to school: We want to thank everyone for their continued partnership in ensuring that we create safe routes to school each day. We continue to ask that families avoid parking on Austin Woods or Amy Circle for arrival or dismissal. You can click here to see a map of the limitations in the mornings and afternoons that continue. There is virtually no legal or available parking (6-7 total spaces) from the hours of 7:00a-9:00a, then 2:00p-4:00p. If you are driving your student to campus, please use our carline or a different area to park/walk. If you would like to park and walk your student to school, there is parking on Robbie Lane or Hyridge, all with available sidewalks. We had an excellent year last year with our procedures and cannot do it without you all!

Arrival

There are several options for you and your family to choose as you commute to Hill each day. As a reminder, families will not be walking students inside the building to assembly/their classes this year:

• Walking/Riding your Bike: This is a great option for families that live in the Hill neighborhood. We have added connected sidewalks these past few years, including the shared use path on Hyridge that connects to Tallwood. We also have ample bike rack space up front and on the south side of the school. If this is an option, it is highly encouraged!
• Buses: For families outside of our immediate neighborhood, the school bus will run to your location if you are in our Hill Zone. If you need more information, you can visit https://www.austinisd.org/transportation. 
• Car Line: If you will be commuting in a vehicle, we highly encourage the use of our Hill Car Line! We again have students and staff supporting us to ensure it runs smoothly. You can reference the picture below for where to enter and exit. It begins on Tallwood and the line wraps around to Cima Serena drive. Please do not turn left into the carline. Please stay in your vehicle. All cars enter by turning right. You can join the queue on Tallwood or Cima Serena coming from Robbie Lane/Greenslope.
• Parking and Walking to the Front Doors: For families that would like to park and walk, we encourage you to use Robbie Lane if there are no spots directly in front of the school on Tallwood. The shared use path on Hyridge is an option as well. Parents/guardians should park and walk with their students if using this option. Parents/guardians should not drop off students at the curb. As stated before, Austin Woods and Amy Circle are no longer a viable choice for parking. Thank you all for respecting our neighborhood community and obeying parkings signs at all times.​

Dismissal

• Caregiver Pickup can happen in several ways. Teachers may also work with you on more specifics: 
  • Carline: Please use the arrival map and description above for directions on entering and exiting our front carline. Staff and safety patrol members will be present to assist students to their vehicles. Stay in your vehicle and do not leave it unattended. We will plan to use the traditional carline waiting area. This is toward the end of the carline, just before exiting, under our North Portico (blue) area. Pre-K and some kinder students may begin at the South Portico. 4th grade families: Your students will be waiting at the South Portico (Orange) so we can better space our students. This area is shortly after you enter the car line at the first set of double doors.
  • Parking and Walking Pickup: For caregivers who want to park and walk (reference best practices under the arrival section), you can begin waiting in our front door area by the flagpole at 3:00 to retrieve students in 1st and 2nd grade. Pre-K and Kinder students can be retrieved from their carline for walk-up parents as well. Staff will walk students out at 3:10 for a safe dismissal. Parents/guardians will not enter the building for pick-up. Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders can meet them outside their class areas for pickup beginning at 3:05.
  • Students walking home: Please ensure your student has a safe plan and is aware of best practices.

We will update everyone if our practices need to be altered so we have the safest plan for our students. It takes all of us working together! Thanks for ensuring you represent us by supporting the above plans.

¡Estamos muy emocionados de comenzar un año escolar increíble este martes! Les recordamos que no habrá clases el lunes 17 de agosto, ya que nuestro personal se prepara para recibir a nuestros alumnos. Las puertas traseras de los edificios principales aún no son entradas para familias. Los padres pueden acompañar a sus estudiantes mayores a las aulas prefabricadas, la puerta del área común de 5.º grado y la puerta del edificio de 4.º grado en la parte trasera de la escuela. El personal estará ubicado alrededor del campus para ayudarlos, incluso en la entrada para acompañar a los estudiantes que necesiten ayuda a su clase. También se agradece que etiqueten la mochila de su hijo si no está familiarizado con el nombre de su maestro y nuestra escuela para brindar apoyo adicional. Queremos informar a nuestra comunidad que uno de nuestros conserjes de larga trayectoria, Dennis Saunders, se trasladará este año a la Escuela Primaria Padron debido a recortes presupuestarios en el centro de servicios del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Austin (Austin ISD). La Escuela Primaria Hill contará con tres conserjes este año. Esta será su última semana en Hill. Si lo ven, gracias por su apoyo.

Familias con estudiantes que usan el autobús: Si tiene un estudiante que usa el autobús este año, queríamos asegurarnos de que tuviera los animales correspondientes que van con los números de autobús que han cambiado este año según nuestra información actual:

• 2631- Autobús de pescado
• 2636- Autobús León

¡Este verano ha sido muy caluroso! Les informamos que estaremos monitoreando el calor de cerca y seguiremos las pautas de exposición adecuadas. ¡Pero la hidratación comienza en casa por la mañana! Asegúrense de que su hijo/a beba mucha agua por las mañanas. Además, desde el primer día, deben traer una botella de agua etiquetada que puedan rellenar diariamente. Nuestros maestros se asegurarán de que tengan acceso a ella durante todo el día.

Por favor, asegúrense de que su hijo/a duerma bien y desayune saludablemente para que esté listo/a para un gran día de aprendizaje el martes. ¡Estamos entusiasmados por otro gran año!

En su lugar, contaremos con personal listo para ayudar a los estudiantes, especialmente a los más pequeños, y dirigirlos al maestro correspondiente. Si es necesario, habilitaremos una zona de bienvenida/despedida en la entrada principal, donde nuestro personal brindará apoyo. Para los estudiantes que necesiten ser acompañados a clase, les pedimos que los lleven a la entrada principal el primer día de clases, ya que la puerta trasera junto a la cafetería ya no es una entrada. Agradecemos su comprensión mientras continuamos priorizando la seguridad y reforzando algunas de nuestras prácticas anteriores. El segundo día de clases (19/8), comenzaremos nuestras asambleas habituales en la cafetería para dar inicio al día.

Recordatorio para las familias que planean estacionar y llevar a sus hijos caminando a la escuela: Queremos agradecerles a todos por su continua colaboración para garantizar que creemos rutas seguras a la escuela todos los días. Les seguimos pidiendo a las familias que eviten estacionar en Austin Woods o Amy Circle para la llegada o la salida. Pueden hacer clic aquí para ver un mapa de las restricciones que continúan vigentes por las mañanas y las tardes. Prácticamente no hay estacionamiento legal ni disponible (6-7 espacios en total) de 7:00 a 9:00 a. m. y de 2:00 a 4:00 p. m. Llegada

Hay varias opciones para que usted y su familia elijan al ir a Hill todos los días. Les recordamos que este año las familias no acompañarán a los estudiantes dentro del edificio para la asamblea o sus clases.

• Fila de coches: Si va a desplazarse en coche, le recomendamos encarecidamente que utilice nuestra fila de coches en Hill. Contamos con la ayuda de estudiantes y personal para garantizar su buen funcionamiento. Puede consultar la imagen a continuación para ver dónde entrar y salir. Comienza en Tallwood y la fila se extiende hasta Cima Serena Drive. No gire a la izquierda para entrar en la fila de coches. Permanezca en su vehículo. Todos los coches entran girando a la derecha. Puede incorporarse a la fila en Tallwood o Cima Serena si viene desde Robbie Lane/Greenslope.

Despido

• La recogida por parte del cuidador puede realizarse de varias maneras. Los profesores también pueden ayudarle a concretar más detalles:
  • Para llegar a la zona de aparcamiento , consulte el mapa de llegadas y la descripción anterior. El personal y los miembros del equipo de seguridad estarán presentes para ayudar a los estudiantes a llegar a sus vehículos.Permanezca en su vehículo y no lo deje desatendido. Utilizaremos la zona de espera tradicional para vehículos. Esta se encuentra al final de la fila, justo antes de la salida, bajo el Pórtico Norte (azul). Los alumnos de preescolar y algunos de kínder podrían comenzar en el Pórtico Sur. Familias de 4.º grado: Sus hijos esperarán en el Pórtico Sur (naranja) para que podamos mantener una mejor distancia entre ellos. Esta zona se encuentra justo después de entrar a la fila de vehículos, en el primer conjunto de puertas dobles.
  • Recogida a pie y en aparcamiento : Para los cuidadores que deseen aparcar y caminar (consulte las mejores prácticas en la sección de llegada), pueden empezar a esperar en la entrada principal junto al mástil de la bandera a las 3:00 para recoger a los alumnos de 1.º y 2.º de primaria. Los alumnos de preescolar y kínder también pueden ser recogidos en su fila de coches por los padres que vengan a pie. El personal acompañará a los alumnos a la salida a las 3:10 para una salida segura. Los padres/tutores no entrarán al edificio para recoger a los alumnos. Los padres de alumnos de 3.º, 4.º y 5.º de primaria pueden reunirse con ellos fuera de sus aulas para recogerlos a partir de las 3:05.
  • Estudiantes que regresan a casa caminando : Por favor, asegúrese de que su hijo/a tenga un plan seguro y conozca las mejores prácticas.
