Dear Hill Community,

We are in the full holiday spirit as students are learning about many cultures and traditions that are important around the world and to our Hill families. It is always a great time of year. As an aside, we also love to do drawings for staff leading up to the Winter Break to surprise them with gift cards, small gifts, baskets, etc. as prizes. If you have anything to donate, including old gift cards or prize items you may not use, you can give it to Principal Drummond to go to a fun cause. We certainly don’t want to over extend. Anything is appreciated.

All library books should have been returned this past Friday! AISD is updating the check-in/check-out software so we will not be able to check out books until later in January. Thank you for ensuring you get those books back tomorrow that may be at the house!

Buy your Winter Tees, Sweater, etc. during the PTA Merchandise sale: Hill•ber•na•tion - the state of being warm and cozy in Hill Spirit Gear during the winter. Whether it’s in the literal or the figurative sense, this season’s merch will swaddle you in calming colors and sweet sentiments. Grab a book, cuddle with your cat, or sit by the fire. Comfort is here. Winter Sale officially runs through December 14th HERE. Expect pick-up at school after the winter break. Anything not picked up after that window will be sent home with your student.

It is Hill PTA Spirit Night this Thursday, December 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Kendra Scott store at the Domain. This includes online shopping. 20% goes to Hill PTA! Click here for information and how to shop while supporting our school. 

A note for 5th grade families interested in applying to Ann Richards: ARS Application Information can be found here. Additionally, please share with any interested families that our ARS Showcase for all prospective students will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 10:00-12:00 at Ann Richards School, and all are welcome to attend. Families will have the opportunity to meet teachers and current students, tour the campus, and learn about our programs, clubs, and organizations. 

The African American Heritage Committee (AAHC) is pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 2026 Essay Writing Contest. This competition is open to all Austin ISD students in grades 3 and above. This year’s essay theme is:  “A Century of Celebration: 1926–2026, Faces of Austin ISD.” Students should write about the theme using the grade-level essay prompts listed here. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to explore African American Heritage, celebrate Austin ISD’s rich history, and showcase their writing talents. Entries can be turned into Principal Drummond by January 9th.

The 2026 Law Day theme is The Texas Constitution and the Rule of Law. Students in grades K-12 are invited to participate in the Texas Young Lawyers Association Contest (editorial, poster, photography). Contest entries are due March 25, 2026. Estamos en pleno espíritu navideño, ya que los estudiantes están aprendiendo sobre muchas culturas y tradiciones importantes en todo el mundo y para nuestras familias de Hill. Siempre es una época maravillosa del año. Además, nos encanta hacer sorteos para el personal antes de las vacaciones de invierno para sorprenderlos con tarjetas de regalo, pequeños obsequios, canastas, etc., como premios. Si tiene algo para donar, incluyendo tarjetas de regalo viejas o artículos de premio que no use, puede dárselo al director Drummond para una buena causa. No queremos excedernos. ¡Todo es bienvenido!

¡Todos los libros de la biblioteca deberían haberse devuelto el viernes pasado! El AISD está actualizando el sistema de préstamo de libros, por lo que no podremos retirarlos hasta finales de enero. ¡Gracias por asegurarse de devolver mañana los libros que puedan estar en casa!

Ya sea en sentido literal o figurado, la mercancía de esta temporada te envolverá en colores relajantes y dulces sentimientos. Toma un libro, acurrúcate con tu gato o siéntate junto a la chimenea. ¡La comodidad está aquí! La venta de invierno está oficialmente abierta hasta el 14 de diciembre AQUÍ. Se recogerá en la escuela después de las vacaciones de invierno. Todo lo que no se recoja después de ese periodo se enviará a casa con el estudiante.

El Comité de Herencia Afroamericana (AAHC) se complace en anunciar que las inscripciones ya están abiertas para el Concurso de Escritura de Ensayos 2026. Este concurso está abierto a todos los estudiantes de Austin ISD en los grados 3 y superiores . El tema del ensayo de este año es: "Un siglo de celebración: 1926–2026, Rostros de Austin ISD". Los estudiantes deben escribir sobre el tema usando las indicaciones de ensayo de nivel de grado que se enumeran aquí . Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para que exploren la herencia afroamericana, celebren la rica historia de Austin ISD y muestren sus talentos de escritura. Las inscripciones pueden entregarse al director Drummond antes del 9 de enero .

El tema del Día del Derecho de 2026 es "La Constitución de Texas y el Estado de Derecho". Se invita a los estudiantes de kínder a 12.º grado a participar en el Concurso de la Asociación de Jóvenes Abogados de Texas (editorial, póster y fotografía). La fecha límite para presentar las inscripciones es el 25 de marzo de 2026. Puede encontrar información sobre el Concurso del Día del Derecho aquí.
