Dear Hill Community,

It is Assistant Principal and Library Appreciation Week at Hill! Thank you to Ellana Selig and Nancy Martinez for their leadership on our campus. Thank you to Jennifer Moore and Terri Kogel-Banda for creating a love of reading at Hill School. Please note there is a lot of information regarding other items this week and beyond. Thank you for reading carefully.

STAAR testing begins Wednesday for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. We are so proud of the hard work our students have put in. We can’t thank our teachers enough for all the preparation they have done this year and in years prior to prepare them. Here is our schedule for the next three weeks:

• Wednesday, April 9th: 3rd, 4th, 5th STAAR Language Arts Exam (Make-Ups the Following Day)

• Tuesday, April 15th: 5th Grade STAAR Science Exam (Make-Ups the Following Day)

• Wednesday, April 23rd: 3rd, 4th, 5th STAAR Math Exam (Make-Ups the Following Day)

We also want to give some reminders for our entire community as our tests are now spread out over two consecutive weeks. We limit our volunteers and visits on testing days, including not having parents/guardians eat with their students at lunch. If you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader, thank you for ensuring they arrive on time for testing days by 7:30 am if possible so they can be ready and prepared as we dismiss them from assembly. We also encourage a lot of sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast the morning of. Please ensure your student brings healthy snacks and a book to read each day. These things matter! Let’s give a big Dillo Cheer to our kids who are ready to show their Dillo Best. We know all of our students will make us very proud!

Current Kindergarten-4th Grade Families: It is that time of year for our parents/guardians to fill out a Student Information Form to help provide input as we begin to discuss classroom placements for the next school year with our staff. We value your feedback and intimate knowledge of your student(s) both academically and emotionally. As always, we request you not make specific teacher requests as many factors go into these decisions. Please complete the linked Google Form by Monday, April 14th if you are interested. 

Attention to our Incoming Pre-K4 and Kindergarten Parents: Mark your calendars for our annual Pre-K/Kinder Round-Up event on Wednesday, April 16th. We will begin the day with a Principal Coffee geared towards all things Hill for our interested incoming families at 7:45 am in our Hill library. This is only geared toward adults. At 9:00 am, our Round-Up presentation will begin for you and your student. All incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten parents, along with their students, can learn more about our school and teachers. We will take care of registration documents as well that may be needed. Your students will visit a Pre-K or Kindergarten class for fun activities. Please spread the word to friends who may be interested in joining our Hill community! You can begin lining up outside and doors will open just before the event begins. We will end with a new parent tour at 10:15 am for those who have not been able to attend one yet this spring with our student leadership team. 

3rd Annual Hill Problem-Based Learning Project: You can click here to view and get your student participating in our 3rd Annual Hill Problem-Based Learning Activity. This is a fun way to get students to think critically while supporting our school to be a better place. Projects/presentations will be due at the end of April to teachers. We look forward to our Dillos’ amazing ideas!

In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, families, community members, and staff are invited by AISD to attend a three-part, virtual learning series focused on Autism hosted by VELA. You can click on the flier for more on these opportunities: Autism Learning Series (Eng), Autism Learning Series (Spn).

And this Friday is No Place for Hate “Team Kindness Day”. Students are encouraged to wear jerseys and clothing representing their favorite sports teams. We look forward to rocking the STAAR test this week!

¡Es la Semana de Agradecimiento a la Subdirectora y a la Biblioteca en Hill! Gracias a Ellana Selig y Nancy Martinez por su liderazgo en nuestro campus. Gracias a Jennifer Moore y Terri Kogel-Banda por fomentar el amor por la lectura en la Escuela Hill. Tengan en cuenta que hay mucha información sobre otros temas esta semana y en adelante. Las pruebas STAAR comienzan el miércoles para nuestros alumnos de 3.º, 4.º y 5.º grado. Estamos muy orgullosos del esfuerzo que han realizado. Agradecemos enormemente a nuestros profesores toda la preparación que han realizado este año y en años anteriores. Aquí está nuestro calendario para las próximas tres semanas:

• Miércoles 9 de abril: Examen STAAR de Lengua y Literatura de 3.º, 4.º y 5.º grado (recuperación al día siguiente)

• Martes 15 de abril: Examen STAAR de Ciencias de 5.º grado (recuperación al día siguiente).

• Miércoles 23 de abril: Examen STAAR de Matemáticas de 3.º, 4.º y 5.º grado (recuperación al día siguiente).

También queremos recordarles a toda nuestra comunidad que nuestros exámenes ahora se extienden a lo largo de dos semanas consecutivas. Limitamos la cantidad de voluntarios y visitas los días de exámenes, lo que incluye evitar que los padres/tutores almuercen con sus hijos. Si tienen un estudiante de 3.er, 4.º o 5.º grado, les agradecemos que se aseguren de que lleguen puntualmente a las 7:30 a. m., si es posible, para que estén listos y preparados cuando los despidamos de la asamblea. También les recomendamos dormir bien la noche anterior y desayunar saludablemente la mañana siguiente. Por favor, asegúrense de que su estudiante traiga refrigerios saludables y un libro para leer todos los días. ¡Esto importa! ¡Demos un gran aplauso a nuestros estudiantes que están listos para dar lo mejor de sí mismos! ¡Sabemos que todos nuestros estudiantes nos harán sentir muy orgullosos!

Familias de kínder a 4.º grado: Es la época del año en que nuestros padres/tutores llenan el Formulario de Información Estudiantil para brindar su opinión mientras comenzamos a discutir con nuestro personal la asignación de aulas para el próximo año escolar. Valoramos sus comentarios y su profundo conocimiento de su(s) estudiante(s), tanto académica como emocionalmente. Como siempre, les pedimos que no hagan solicitudes específicas a los docentes, ya que muchos factores influyen en estas decisiones. Si les interesa, completen el formulario de Google adjunto antes del lunes 14 de abril .

Atención a nuestros padres entrantes de Pre-K4 y Kindergarten : Marquen sus calendarios para nuestro evento anual Pre-K/Kinder Round-Up el miércoles 16 de abril. Comenzaremos el día con un café con el director orientado a todo lo relacionado con Hill para nuestras familias entrantes interesadas a las 7:45 a.m. en nuestra biblioteca de Hill. 3.er Proyecto Anual de Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas de Hill: Puede hacer clic aquí para ver y animar a su estudiante a participar en nuestra 3.er Actividad Anual de Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas de Hill . Esta es una forma divertida de fomentar el pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes y, al mismo tiempo, ayudar a nuestra escuela a ser un mejor lugar. Los proyectos y presentaciones deberán entregarse a los docentes a finales de abril. ¡Esperamos con ansias las increíbles ideas de nuestros Dillos!

En conmemoración del Mes de la Aceptación del Autismo, el AISD invita a familias, miembros de la comunidad y personal a asistir a una serie de aprendizaje virtual de tres partes centrada en el autismo, organizada por VELA . Y este viernes es el "Día de la Amabilidad en Equipo" de "No Hay Lugar para el Odio". Animamos a los estudiantes a usar camisetas y ropa de sus equipos deportivos favoritos. ¡Esperamos arrasar en el examen STAAR esta semana!
