Nina and Maclovia Hill were sisters who taught at Austin High School in Austin, Texas, during the first half of the 20th century. Nina Hill taught English for 48 years and Maclovia Hill taught history for 38 years. Hill Harbor
On August 23, 1996, Hill Harbor was dedicated as a memorial to Roth Feeley, a former Hill Elementary student. Roth attended Hill Elementary from Kindergarten through fifth grade. He was in the sixth grade at Murchison Middle School when he passed away in his sleep of an irregular heartbeat.
The Hill School community, Roth’s former teachers and coaches, and friends of the Feeley family came together to raise money and build Hill Harbor. It was designed as a group of three small buildings (Roth’s Aquarium, Feeley’s Filling Station, and an ice cream parlor named for Roth’s younger brother, Coleman’s Confections) and a paved trail to be used by Hill’s pre-K and Kindergarten students. Roth took a particular interest in whales, of which there is a mural on the playhouse named Roth’s Aquarium.
The original Dedication Ceremony photos and program are linked below, and you will be touched by this student’s inspiration and legacy.
